TXTpower asks congress to defend Smart Dealers

November 24, 2008 · Posted in Eloading · 1 Comment

TXTpower has sent a press release today addressing Smart’s intention to end Dealer to Retailer transactions in the next year:

Congress asked to defend Smart dealers from “dismissal”

Consumer group TXTPower today urged the Senate and House of
Representatives to look into a mobile carrier’s plan to summarily
dismiss thousands of electronic load dealers nationwide who have
helped the telco expand its market share since 2002.

“Both the National Telecommunications Commission and the Department of
Trade and Industry have told Smart electronic load (e-load) dealers
that they do not have jurisdiction over their predicament, and so
Congress must step in to fill the void, rescue these dealers from
certain bankruptcy and exercise their oversight functions on the
franchises granted to Smart Communications and parent compant PLDT,”
said TXTPower president Anthony Ian Cruz.

If not stopped, Smart’s plan will end the e-loading businesses of at
least 3,000 dealers and their tens of thousands of partners.

Smart introduced its e-load system in 2002 and asked entrepreneurs to
become dealers. The dealers meanwhile recruited retailers who sell
e-load to end-users. The initial set-up resulted in Smart expanding
its nationwide reach and beating rival Globe Telecom in the prepaid
market.

“By the end of November, we have been informed that Smart will end its
business partnerships with these dealers after depending on them to
lay down the network of hundreds of thousands of e-load retailers from
the very start. The dealers would be dropped in favor of a smaller
number of regional and provincial distributors,” said Cruz.

“There is a possibility that Smart’s plan to eliminate dealers would
affect Smart subscribers. Some retailers who partnered with the
dealers may also lose their businesses because they may not be reached
by the new regional and provincial distributors who are fewer in
number and who do not personally know theese retailers,” said Cruz.

TXTPower said that Smart should recognize the role of the e-load
dealers, who have formed the Telco Entrepreneurs Association (TEA),
who the company egged on to take on the business in the first place.

“We also appeal to Smart to uphold corporate social responsibility and
include these dealers who have helped them in their business since
2002 in their new business plans,” said Cruz.

TEA sought and obtained TXTPower assistance in a meeting last week in
Manila, and has likewise written several members of the Senate.

The group has earlier sought to meet officials of Smart but the
request has not been acted upon by company officials, as of press
time. ###

Is this the End for Smart’s Unlimited service?

November 6, 2008 · Posted in unlimited texting · Comment

Smart 258 has been down since 12:00 AM. Almost 12 hours later, and it’s still down. Before the downtime, Smart offered All-Day unlimited texting for just P15, cheaper than Globe’s P20 one-day UNLITXT.

It’s entirely possible that Smart is experimenting user reactions in removing the 258 service since PLDT’s income is projected to drop a drastic amount. Smart has already reduced discounts for dealers and retailers. Perhaps they’re looking for other ways to raise their income statement.

UPDATE: 258 is now working again, after almost 13 hours of outage.

Virtual Dealerships - Smart and EasyLoad

September 29, 2008 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comment

Smart will soon change its distribution system. Soon, Smart virtual dealerships will no longer work.

There are two types of Virtual Dealerships available to EasyLoad members.

  1. Virtual Smart Dealerships where you can directly load Smart Retailers
  2. Virtual EasyLoad Dealerships where you can load EasyLoad Retailers.

EasyLoad’s Virtual Smart Dealerships will change once discounts to our dealer SIM changes, and the service may eventually be eliminated once our dealer SIM stops working. However, Virtual Dealerships for our main service will be unaffected and remain working. Discounts may change depending on the final decision of Smart and its distributors.

Replenishing your EasyLoad Wallet with “BANK” command

September 5, 2008 · Posted in Eloading · Comment

EasyLoad was one of the first (if not the first) to introduce a method for members to make a claim on their deposits. The old way of doing things (and the method used other services) required members to call or fax their deposit slips after making a replenishment deposit.

We introduced the BANK command to:

  • give convenience to members
  • simplify the replenishment process
  • prevent clerical errors and increase accuracy
  • overall efficiency of the claiming process

EasyLoad has successful in achieving our goals that we have seen a number of other services implementing the same command.

In order to get the most out of the BANK command, here are some tips…

The syntax (or format) of the command is BANK <bankcode> <amount> [<branch>]. BANK is the keyword that tells our system that you are making a claim on your deposit.

Bankcode is the bank where you made your deposit, in a 3-letter code:

  • BDO - Banco de Oro
  • MET - Metrobank
  • CBC - Chinabank
  • PNB - Philippine National Bank

tip: to get the bank account number, send in your claim when your almost at the bank. A confirmation with the account number of will be sent to you.

Amount is your deposit amount (no commas please!).

tip: deposit an amount that nobody else would think of depositing. If you deposit P1000, there will surely be others depositing the same amount, making the verification process slower as we double and triple-check. If you were to deposit P999.75, it is possible that you are the only one, and your claim will be approved instantly.

Finally, Branch is the location of the bank you deposited. Note that the branch is in [brackets], meaning that the branch information is optional, but we recommend that you include it, to speed up your claim.

Complete examples of a BANK claim follows:

  • BANK BDO 950.25 sm ayala center
  • BANK CBC 12500.10 megamall
  • BANK MET 751 cubao
